Zero Charge for Zero Waste

Stop. Take a moment to see where your phone charger is. Is it plugged in the wall socket? Is your phone being charged? If you ever answered yes then no, then we got a problem. That is, yes my phone charger is plugged in but no my phone is not being charged. Doing this draws needless electricity into the charger and wastes electricity, known as “vampire draw.” AT&T estimates that if 80% of their subscribers left their chargers plugged in for a year, the energy drawn could power 24,000 homes for a year. But luckily for us, AT&T is introducing their Zero Charger which will shut off when not being used. This unit will be compatible with iPhones, BlackBerries and other USB based chargers. Accommodating multiple phones can make the Zero Charger an eco-friendly replacement or ultimately the sole charger for all phones. With the GSMA trade association requiring that most new cell phones by 2012 use the same USB type charger, a Zero Charger for all could be likely. The Zero Charger will be available for $29.99 by the end of spring.
