First Touch Screen Eco-Friendly Cell Phone
Despite its blue color, the Samsung “Blue Earth” is one of the “greenest” cell phones available in the world. In addition to the fact that it is created out of Post Consumer Material (PCM), such as plastic from water bottles, the creation process of this cell phone also reduces fuel consumption and the emission of carbon during the manufacturing process. As if being crafted out of recycled materials doesn’t cut it, “Blue Earth” also comes with a green interface with unique programs such as “eco mode,” which with a push of a button (or tap of the finger on the touch screen), changes the screen brightness and backlight duration to an energy-efficient mode. Its “eco walk” app serves as a pedometer and also allows users to calculate their reduction in CO2 as opposed to taking a motorized mode of transportation. To top it all off, the phone includes a solar panel charger on the back and when the sun is not out, users can utilize the eco-friendly 5 star energy efficient charger that only uses 0.03 Watts of energy when in standby mode (a-la plugged into the wall socket when not in use…which all of you earth-conserving fanatics should know not to do!). And if that still wasn’t enough, this phone is packaged in a compact easy-to-recycle paper with text printed in soy ink. I guess we know what’s going to be on Al Gore’s holiday wish list this year.
